Sound Judgment (hearingaid.co) is a reader-supported information site. We collect as little about you as we can, we never sell what we do collect, and this page says exactly what happens to it.
What we collect, and why
- Contact and report forms. When you send a message or file a report, we receive what you type and any files you attach: your name, your email address, and the details of your experience. We use it to reply to you, to investigate the product or seller, and, only with the quote permission you choose on the form, to publish your account. Your name and email are never published. Submissions are delivered to us by email and are not stored in a database on this site.
- Analytics. We use Google Analytics, through the MonsterInsights plugin, to see which pages are read and how people arrive. This uses cookies and collects device and usage information. Analytics only runs if you accept cookies in the banner. We do not use it to identify you, and we do not share it.
- Cookie consent. The cookie banner stores your choice in a cookie so we do not ask again. Declining non-essential cookies is honoured.
- Server logs. Our hosting provider records ordinary web-server logs, including IP address, browser, and pages requested, for security and to keep the site running. Logs are kept for a limited period and are not used for marketing.
- Comments. Comments are closed on this site. If we ever enable them, this page will be updated first.
Affiliate links and third parties
Some links on this site are affiliate links. If you click one, the retailer, for example Amazon, may set a cookie in your browser so that a purchase can be credited to us. That cookie belongs to the retailer and is governed by their privacy policy, not ours. We do not receive your name, address, or payment details from any retailer, only anonymous commission reports. Full details are on our How We Make Money page.
Photos on this site are licensed from Unsplash and served from our own server. Fonts are served from our own server. We do not embed social media widgets or advertising networks.
What we do not do
- We do not sell, rent, or trade personal information. Ever.
- We do not send marketing email. If we start a newsletter, it will be opt-in only, with an unsubscribe link in every message.
- We do not publish the names, emails, or order details of people who report a product to us, regardless of the quote permission chosen. Only the words you allow us to quote appear, under the attribution you allow.
- We do not knowingly collect information from children under 16. This site is written for adults.
Your choices and your rights
- You can decline non-essential cookies in the banner at any time, and clear them in your browser.
- You can ask us what information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, including a report you have sent. Use the contact form and we will act within 30 days.
- If you asked to be quoted and change your mind, tell us and we will remove or anonymise the quote. We will not remove documented findings about a product or seller, only your personal contribution to them.
- Residents of California, the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and other places with privacy laws have additional rights under those laws. We honour them for everyone, not only where we are required to.
Security and retention
The site is served over HTTPS. Form submissions are kept in our email only as long as needed to investigate and, where relevant, to support a published Case File and its evidence record. Analytics data is retained according to Google’s settings, which we keep at the shortest available period.
Changes and contact
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it, and material changes are noted on our Latest page. Questions about privacy go through the contact form. Sound Judgment is operated from Alaska, United States.
